Monday, second week back! Is it really only Monday?

Today started with a math check from last week and students were asked to hand in their histograms from last day. Some students forgot to hand in their Scatterplot graphs and so they were able to do this today and they will be returned tomorrow, with feedback to improve for Wednesday's assignment. We started Geometry today with 2 Khan Academy videos on the Cartesian coordinate plane. You will find them attached below, for reference. Students watched the films and then as a refresher did the activities in the text book Chapter 13 p.422 & 423 #1-10. After recess the students were given a Cartesian worksheet on plotting coordinates using all four quadrants. Both the worksheet and chapter are due tomorrow for a homework mark. We will also be taking up questions that students might have had problems with as #10 on the worksheet was a little unclear. Try it tonight, if you can answer it great, if not we'll go through it tomorrow. For tomorrow we will cover, translations using the Cartesian plane. Activity sheets will be sent home for practice and started in class in case students need extra help. So far the class seems fairly confident so that's great news!

After recess we took up the lab results for Science. We walked through the steps and expectations for the next Science lab and discussed how to answer each of the questions. We decided that the soft due date for the lab is Friday January 20th and the final date is Monday January 23rd. Please see below photos for the expectations. Students were given the option to take notes or read the blog later, please reread the expectations and ask me any questions if you need any help.

After recess we reviewed the upcoming due dates, they are fast approaching and we discussed the upcoming Winter Activity Day on February 10th. Forms and money are due ASAP if you need rentals for skates or skis. The final day for trip forms is next Friday, so plan to bring them in soon. Pizza money is due ASAP so if you're ordering it, get your money in! We also talked about the upcoming chocolate sales and the chocolates will be here the first week of February, just in time for Valentines Day! More details to come, I promise!

For language we were going to start a new writing assignment but after a class discussion we decided to keep it open as a double work period to catch up. Many students used this time to redo graphs, check their opinion piece, continue working on their history summary or finalize their notes for Science. Time is precious and this period flew by, before we knew it, the bell was ringing.

Productive day, lots done today! See you tomorrow 8's! ;)
