Tuesday - The second day back!

Today was a busy day filled with energy and enthusiasm.  Students went to Tech first thing and were allowed some time to do some work on their own.  After recess we FINALLY did student of the month and the writing this month was exceptional.  Many students are really using their "true" voices and their passion when they write is evident throughout their pieces.  All of the entries were much improved from last month and our student of the month winner is "drum roll please"............ANGELA!! Congratulations goes to George for the nomination paper, it was well written and included a bit of humour which made us all laugh.  The celebration lunch is set for Friday and lucky them Mr. Church is our guest of honour.

We read some of the novel "Speak", set the due date for the next Student of the Month paper and picked the 3 characteristics that we are looking for in our nominee.
Paper is due : (Soft date) January 27th (hard date)January 30th

Just a reminder that students MUST hand in their French projects this Thursday.  Monsieur Ndikumana has been giving class time to complete the assignment and some of you are coming with nothing to class.  Tomorrow is your last day to complete it with his help in class, so please make sure you come prepared to work tomorrow.

Today we started to unpack the ideas about how and why a scatter plot graph is used.  We discussed that scatter plot graphs are a good tool to show if two variables have a relationship.  For example: Is a persons leg length related to their height?   Primary data was collected in the class to answer this question and students started collecting data for their own inquiry question.  We will begin with the same investigations in class and there will be an assignment handed out at the end of the period tomorrow where students will have to choose 2 variables from secondary data, graph them and evaluate whether there is a strong relationship or a weak one and if the relationship is positive or negative.  I will post the homework sheets tomorrow night.

For tomorrow:
1. New year's journal entry is due tomorrow
2. Science questions & Math problems are due tomorrow

Congratulations George & Angela! ;) Have a great night and we'll see you tomorrow.
