Wacky Wednesday

Our third day back and the wheels are turning! We started the morning with revisiting the ideas surrounding scatter plot graphs and students were given the opportunity to finish collecting their data within the class. Teams of students picked 2 variables to measure and then collected that data from the class. Tonight's homework is to finish the graph that each group started in class and hand it in with all of the success criteria in mind. In addition to that the students were given a take home assignment to do a scatter graph using secondary data. We decided that the good copy of this assignment was due on Wednesday of next week (January 18th, 2012). Students are welcome to ask for extra help with this in class and I am willing to help them if they are unclear of the steps in the next week.

**Reminder for English: Student of the Month characteristics are: Cooperation, Intiative & Fairness due: January 30th, 2012!

For Health we watched a lecture by Jamie Oliver on Obesity in America and how the systems set in place are failing the future generation of children. I have attached the link below and I would like students to re-watch this lecture, as we will be taking it up in class tomorrow.

In Science we did a lab, exploring the ideas surrounding density. We explored the properties of: corn syrup, blue vinegar(dyed for observation purposes), canola oil, 18% cream and two solids a piece of cork and a small block. The students made some cool patterns in their cylinders and density was calculated in small research groups. The class did a great job, and we`ll unpack the ideas about the lab tomorrow during language. Special thanks to: Fatima, Kiri and Dennis for being the scientists in charge, the lab ran smoothly because of you, great work!

For tomorrow:
1. Students must have their Scatter plot graphs done to hand in.
2. French project is DUE!
3. We have a double period of art to work on the Speak - tree assignment. If students are finished their art because they did it on the holiday then they need to work on their written component.

See you all tomorrow!
Scatter plot graph Success Criteria
The final mixture...corn syrup on the bottom, vinegar in the middle, canola oil on the top, an orange block in the middle, the cork floating on the top and the white beads are the 18% cream!
