Earl Beatty Debate Day

Today was a fantastic day! We started off the morning getting through our main points for each of the arguments we had prepared and then it was time for the debate. Each side was well represented and I was pleased to see the whole class participating. I'm so glad that you all were so passionate about you were saying and the level of insight you all had was impressive. Great job!

As homework, you have a choice as requested by the class to write either a journal entry OR an opinion piece on the Earl Beatty ball ban. The pictures of the write up will be posted below.

This afternoon we revisited adding integers. We finally got the technology going (thanks Caytlin & Bory) and watched the clip below. We also worked in teams to solve some basic computational questions and used the number line and integer chips. I was impressed with the teamwork I saw in the class and your knowledge impressed me. Below is the link for the video we watched in class on adding and subtracting integers from the Khan Academy. I am looking forward to using these videos in class more regularly and I highly encourage everyone to check out his videos. They are not only informative but easy to understand too.

Math homework tonight is: p.353 #5-8 and p.354 #9-11
We will be having a math challenge on Friday...so all of you Math-letes better start flexing your muscles. Delicious prizes to be won! I love it!

To end off tonight, I have to admit we are missing Raiyan quite a bit but it was nice to see him this morning as a surprise. Good night! I have added a picture of Lucy mailing her first letter to Santa to make you smile. Adieu!

Ground Rules for the debate, laid out by the class

Debate in full effect...what is Terry saying?
The "Concerned Parents", who support the ban
The groups who were against the ban!  - Some well spoken primary students, intermediate students, parents, health experts and a physical education teacher
A health expert making her point, linking childhood obesity, muscle memory and sports skills to her argument.

One of the options for homework...the opinion piece.
The journal reflection option...one is due this Friday
Lucy mailing her first ever Santa letter (Yes! She is wearing sunglasses and an owl hat!)
