Tuesday:
We started the day with a Q &A session with Ms.Lawrence for the end of our Growth and Development unit. It was a mature conversation and a lot of questions were answered.
For math we covered the ideas surrounding % commission. We calculated how much commission we were making on the chocolate sales and it was about 50% which is quite a lot for us. Homework was: p.168&169 # 1-8, 9-15 (it wasn't checked Wednesday so it will be checked Thursday so get it done).
The afternoon was covered by a workshop from an organization our school is working with called: Tin Roof Global. We met John and he taught us about schools in Uganda and the water projects that they have been involved with. We did some water conservation activities and even played a game where the students carried 40lbs of books to mimic the feeling of carrying the water. Our school is happy to be in a partnership with this organization and we are going to have a water week coming up in the near future to help raise funds for a water collection system at a school in Uganda. Wednesday:
Today was a busy day as well. We got off to a quick start and worked on Language. We analyzed what a metaphor was, and then did an activity where in teams of four students created their own metaphors. It worked out well and the results were fantastic.
We also got through a bit of Geography where we talked about population characteristics and had a brief discussion about the advantages for the young and old in the population of the world when they have access to great healthcare and education. We also discussed how lucky we are to live in Canada and have the healthcare system that we do. As with everything though it seems no matter where you are the more money a person has, the better life chances they have overall. We will revisit this next week and have a chapter analysis to work on. So far though there is no homework other than p.29 #1-6.
FOR TOMORROW!
- Bring your lunch
- Wear closed shoes (running shoes are best)
- Wear weather appropriate clothing
- Do your math homework (if it wasn't done for today)
